Grammar School Spring Program

Grammar School Spring Program

Music education, experience, creation and performance is highly valued at RCS. Across the grades, two dedicated music teachers, both fine musicians and composers in their own right, lead students in exploring grade appropriate musical experiences: lower grades go far beyond basic pitch-matching and steady rhythms to folk dance, hand signs, Orff, recorder and improvisation. Upper grades focus on an acclaimed graded handbell program learning music theory and basic to advanced ringng skills, as well as performance skills and composition.

At the Grammar School Spring Program, held on May 11, families and friends of Redeemer got to hear firsthand the beautiful evidence of this approach to music education.

PreK through 5th grade students treated the audience to rousing renditions of traditional music — many numbers with accompanying dancing and movements — as well as some original pieces composed by Mr. Greg Yoder. The performance ended with the students enticing the audience to form a giant circle in order to join in the dancing. The evening proved to be an lovely mix of joyful and poignant performance.

Videos from the event will be posted soon to this website or to Redeemer's facebook page. In the meantime, the program for the evening is listed below.
