Redeemer Classical School

About RCS

Several years ago, a group of parents determined — through much prayer, research and discussion — that a Christian school, with academic programs based on the principles of classical education, was needed in the Greater Harrisonburg area. As a result of their commitment, Redeemer Classical School (RCS) opened its doors to 15 sixth through eighth grade students in the fall of 2004. Since then, RCS has expanded to over 40 students and offers classes from kindergarten through eighth grade.

Our vision is to provide for the Christian discipleship of children through a classical school established in the context of a community for the greater glory of God.

Our philosophy

WE BELIEVE that we have much to learn from history. Therefore, our curriculum is rooted in developing in students an understanding of the broad sweep of history that has shaped our culture by integrating the curriculum across disciplines for specific time periods. WE BELIEVE that good books are like nutritious food. As a body needs a well-balanced diet, so a mind needs rich and satisfying material to help it grow mentally and spiritually. Because of this, our students will read the classics. WE BELIEVE in the power of the written word. Therefore, our students will be asked to write, write often and write well. Finally, WE BELIEVE that in God we find the source of all knowledge. Thus, our students will study orthodox Christian doctrine in order to return all glory to our Maker.
